Do you have a default complain button? You know the one where you moan about things that aren’t going right? If so, you aren’t alone. So many of us are hard-wired to complain. We often do it without even realizing and guess what? It becomes a habit. And it’s not a great one.

LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE

One of the laws of the universe is that we get more of what we focus on. So by focusing on everything that isn’t going right and complaining about it, we unconsciously attract more of the same. The problem gets bigger, blinding us to any solution.

If you aren’t quite sold on the law of ‘like attracts like’ consider this - have you ever wanted to buy something like a specific car and next thing you know, you notice that car on every corner? There you go; we attract what we focus on. So if we attract what we focus on, why not focus on the good instead of the bad?

Now don’t jump all over me and tell me I have rose colored glasses on! I too have struggled to see the good in the bad. But over time I’ve forced myself to shift my focus. I now take the time to appreciate all of the things that are going great. And I’ve found the more I do this, the more I live in the NOW … and the happier I am.

HOW TO SHIFT YOUR FOCUS

Here’s some tips to help you get started:

  1. Think about the things you are grateful for right now and appreciate them – all the way from the top of your head right down to the tips of your toes!

  2. Recognize the area(s) you want to improve and imagine they already have; in doing so, feel the emotion of that moment.

  3. Set your intentions for what you need to do to achieve that – take baby steps if you need to.

  4. If that negative chatter starts up, consciously stop it. Deep breathing, a short walk, whatever it takes to halt the negative.

Once you begin to focus on what is going well you will create a momentum in your life. This is where the life changing shift will begin to happen and where you will see the areas you have been complaining about improve.

YOU’RE THE DESTINY-MAKER

An amazing life isn’t just for others. It is for you too. We are the creators and authors of our lives! We all have hardships and stories. It’s up to you to choose how you move forward each day.

And on that point – if we truly are the creators of our lives, then why not make the sky the limit? You CAN create a life you love!
